The evaporator in this Mercedes-Benz air conditioning system was replaced.Despite being a relatively new vehicle, this type of work is highly complex, as the car has a lot of technology, multiple screens, and integrated electronic systems in the dashboard.
During the diagnostic process, we detected a refrigerant leak escaping through the compressor's mounting bolts. This type of leak is highly atypical and does not commonly occur in these types of systems. To pinpoint its exact location, it was necessary to utilize specialized diagnostic tools, which allowed us to confirm the precise source of the leak.
During our inspection, we discovered that the leak in the evaporator was significant—to the point where the escaping refrigerant and vapors were generating a foul odor inside the cabin, causing eye irritation and persistent headaches for the driver whenever the vehicle was operated.
The vehicle arrived with the cooling fans running constantly at high speed due to an incorrect refrigerant previously installed and a condenser clogged with dirt and debris. The condenser was thoroughly cleaned, the improper refrigerant was removed, and the system was recharged with the correct factory-specified R-1234yf refrigerant. Cabin air filters were also replaced. After service, the A/C system returned to normal operation with stable cooling performance and proper fan function.
